Alexanderplatz
One of Berlin’s Most Iconic Squares
When it comes to Berlin’s most iconic places, Alexanderplatz checks several boxes: it’s the largest public square, features the city’s tallest building, and has seen some of the biggest historical events, including demonstrations that took place a couple of days before the Berlin Wall fell in 1989.
Here, you’ll find many traces of the former East Germany, such as the Weltzeituhr, meaning World Clock in English. Installed in 1969, this rotating cylinder shows the time in major cities around the world and remains a popular meeting spot in the square.
